On 15th December 2005, the Secretary of State for Transport announced the ending of the National Safety Camera Programme and netting off funding arrangement for cameras in England and Wales. Following this, the National Safety Camera Programme ceased to exist March 31st 2007.
Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership (CSCP) is therefore no longer in operation. Safety cameras, however, will be integrated into the wider road safety delivery process, given the level of success they have had in reducing vehicle speeds and road casualties.
Launched Thursday 29th March 2007, ‘Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership’ (CSRP) will encompass all road safety activities including the use of safety cameras in traffic law enforcement. The key stakeholders of CSRP are: Cheshire Constabulary, Cheshire County Council, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, Halton Borough Council, The Highways Agency, Her Majesty’s Court Service and Warrington Borough Council.
Each organisation sees the value in pooling resources, sharing data and generally working together to save lives on the roads of Cheshire. Organisation representatives formally signed their commitment to partnership working and safer roads at a conference earlier this year.
The overall aim of CSRP is to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads of Cheshire, Halton and Warrington. Intelligence-led, we will target resources where they are needed most in our drive and commitment to road casualty reduction.
Together, we will deliver education and training programmes; we will engineer our high-risk casualty areas and we will enforce traffic legislation because these are the tools proven to be effective at saving lives on the roads. On top of this we will seek to engage and enable our communities to be more activiely involved in creating safer roads.
