Community

YOU are ideally placed to communicate key safer roads messages at local level and help save lives on the roads of Cheshire.

We suspect you will be very aware of the specific road safety problems and dangers within your own community and can help to focus campaigns and initiatives towards the key issues in your area.

The sense of community spirit that develops as a result of everyone working together to tackle issues that directly affect them can also derive huge benefits.

One way to get involved is via your Local Community Action Team of Police Officers. Meeting on a regular basis, the community are invited to be a part of the local policing process to enable a safer neighbourhood. Members of the community are asked to raise their concerns, vote priorities and help put together an action plan for how the issues can be addressed. Find your next CAT meeting here or alternatively contact them directly them via telephone.

A more active role you can take in road safety is via the Commmunity Speed Watch scheme. Working with Cheshire Police and the Local Authorities, volunteers are trained in operating speed detection equipment to slow down traffic in areas of residents' concerns.

Registration numbers of speeding vehicles are captured and warning letters are sent to the registered keepers explaining the dangers speeding can pose and the anxiety it can bring to a community. Persistent offenders are identified by the Police who then take further action.
