The government’s Changing Lanes paper sets out a framework for addressing safer roads issues. Pleasingly, the guidance given mirrors our strategy.
Changing Lanes said we must:
• Analyse data better - we have collated collision and casualty data for analysis and this will direct where resources shall be allocated in order to be most effective
• Target action on locations and people – we are currently forming groups that will decide what combination of engineering, education, training , publicity and enforcement is most likely to influence our most at risk groups
• Engage the public – part of our strategy is to create a safer roads environment through engagement with the community. The Fire Service already has good links in this line of work of which will be of value to us all.
• Evaluate value for money – our business plan sets out baseline performance indicators that will be used to measure our long-term goals with interim evaluations to gauge current progress.
