Whilst there are numerous contributory factors to road collisions other than excessive speed, many of them can be associated with speeding, such as: ‘failed to judge other person path/speed’, ‘loss of control’, ‘going too fast for conditions’ and ‘careless/reckless of the hurry’. The travelling speed of a vehicle, therefore, plays a crucial role in the result of a collision. A slower speed, for example, can assist the driver in keeping control of their vehicle, or travelling within the speed limit could assist the judgement of a fellow driver looking to pull out of a junction. There are also other advantages to the presence of a speed enforcement vehicle operated by a Police Officer. In addition to driving within the speed limit, drivers can be influenced to wear a seat belt, to not use a mobile phone, to place both hands on the steering wheel etc.
